The apothecary jar originated in the Middle Ages and reached its peak during the Renaissance. Used by apothecaries (the ancestors of our pharmacists), this container was used to store medicinal herbs, spices and ointments. Made from ceramic, earthenware or porcelain, the apothecary's pot was distinguished by its hermetically sealed lid, which protected its contents from moisture and light, ensuring better preservation.
Today, the apothecary jar is more sought-after for its decorative appeal than for its preservative properties. The Alix D. Reynis white porcelain apothecary jar is made in the family-run factory in Limoges using the time-honoured skills of our craftsmen. Versatile, this elegant container, with its sculpted lid, can be used to store spices, small treasures, or simply to enhance your interior decoration.
The Alix D. Reynis apothecary jar comes in three sizes: large, medium and small. The small size can be used to store coarse salt, cotton buds, jams or mustard, and is ideal for use in the kitchen, on the table or in the bathroom. Made from Limoges porcelain, it is oven, dishwasher and microwave safe.
